The mumok - Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna
Back to all places
The mumok - Museum of Modern Art Foundation Ludwig Vienna is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art in Central Europe and houses an extraordinary collection with major works of classical modernism, pop art, Fluxus, minimal art and conceptual art as well as Viennese Actionism up to contemporary art.
As a museum with a high international reputation, the mumok makes the various facets of the international and Austrian avant-garde accessible to all art lovers. From Pablo Picasso to Andy Warhol to Albert Oehlen, Ulrike Müller or Jakob Lena Knebl, the collection and special exhibitions represent a mixture of tradition and experiment, past and present.
The mumok sees itself as a place of lively engagement with modern and contemporary art. With art that interferes, that shows the breaks and upheavals in our society, that sensitizes and enables new perspectives. Central to the exhibition program are coordinated collection and special exhibitions, which contain both monographic and thematic projects and, in addition to modernism and the neo-avant-garde, offer a forum in particular for young, contemporary artists.
The mumok cinema, with its thematic film series, lectures and discussions, has developed into a center for the debate between visual arts and film in recent years.
The mumok is a place of coming together and exchange, an interface between art lovers and artists. It invites you to approach art with all its contradictions and facets. As part of the mediation work, a large number of creative concepts are being developed that strive for understanding between cultures, social classes and age groups and break down the barriers between fine art and the general public.
