Tanzquartier Wien

Since it was founded in 2001, the Tanzquartier Wien has been one of the leading dance houses in Europe and is Austria’s first production and event venue dedicated to contemporary dance and performance.

The Tanzquartier Wien (TQW) is a place where visitors can experience contemporary dance and performances that incorporate socio-political and/or artistic discourses. The productions shown do not shy away from risk or experiment and can take on a wide variety of formats. The immediate physicality of the dance enables even the most complex contemporary phenomena to be addressed in a nuanced way and made sensually tangible. A further focus is placed on the presentation of selected international works and the detection of current developments and trend-setting tendencies in dance creation.

At the same time, the TQW is a place of work and exchange for artists. Artistic processes are initiated, supervised and made visible here. In addition, the TQW continuously implements comprehensive activities in the areas of rehearsal & research, theory & research as well as training & workshops. The mediation work enables an in-depth examination and counteracts any reservations about the art form of dance. A library with selected specialist literature and a media center – also in the sense of an archive – are available to visitors to the TQW.

The Tanzquartier Wien sees itself as a creative place for innovative storytelling and the vision of a better future.
